Barrett’s Grill – Reputation as the Area’s Premier Dining Establishment

In 2011, restaurateurs John Barrett and Mike Sipes decided to join forces and bring their collective experience to bear. Their dream – create an upscale dining experience which highlights fresh, authentic, local flavors at a place where they saw a perfect niche – Hunt Valley, Maryland. Straddling the border between suburbia and horse farm country, there was no shortage of chains, dives and small “ma & pa” establishments, but little in the realm of truly upscale casual dining. There was clearly a culinary void to be filled.

The dream was realized, and today, quietly situated on the upper deck of Hunt Valley Towne Center, adjacent to Regal Cinemas, Barrett’s Grill has earned the reputation as the area’s premier dining establishment. Upon the first step through the door, one can’t help but notice the upscale charm. It blends an open, contemporary style with a warm and welcoming atmosphere befitting most any
occasion. Barrett’s Grill conveys “sophisticated” without being fussy. With various sections, alcoves, two private rooms, it’s as conducive to an intimate dinner-for-two,
as it is to a private party of 60 or more.

Then, there’s the food. The opulent array of choices for brunch through dinner, seven days a week, might best be best summed up as – American inspired with local flair.

You’ll find many Maryland and other East Coast favorites are the basis for truly inspired presentations – jumbo Maryland crab cakes, an authentic Lobster Roll, Roseda Farms Angus center cut filet, the decadently rich signature Shrimp Cargot, seared Ahi tuna and Scallops Risotto. The signature salads do a particularly good job of highlighting the fresh ingredients –Mango and Mandarin with blackened shrimp and Grilled Chicken and Strawberriesare consistently in high demand.

But the menu is nicely rounded out with well-crafted, pub-style selections too – such as Barrett’s Grill’s own Bacon Cheeseburger, house-made chicken tenders, hand-cut French fries, Chef Sliders and even slow cooked, fall-off-of-the bone baby back ribs. Even these selections are not without some special touch. The sliced prime rib French Dip sandwich with au jus, horseradish sauce and gruyere, for example transcends its class of entrée.

Such variety, but with “one” central theme – “made from scratch everyday with fresh, high-quality ingredients.” For owners John and Mike, it’s not just a rule of thumb, it’s their mantra.
They grate their own cheeses, make their own sauces and dressings, prepare house made soups, and make all of their desserts in house. Each dish is created with the freshest ingredients, received daily – farm-to-table produce and herbs, the freshest seafood, and locally sourced, hand-cut meats.

This theme not only runs through Barrett’s Grill’s menu, but it’s the backbone of everything John Barrett & Mike Sipes do. The two met seventeen years ago at the launch of a franchised concept and have developed and operated still successful new restaurant concepts in the DC market. The success of Barrett’s Grill inspired the creation of Glyndon Grill in October 2013. In the location previously occupied by Mia Carolina on Butler Road, Glyndon Grill caters to the locale and is more casual than Barrett’s Grill. But true to form, its offerings are fresh and made from scratch daily. The soft glow of Edison bulbs create a warm, friendly atmosphere which, like Barrett’s, stands in contrast to its rural surroundings.

Still not ready to rest on their laurels, and urged by the countless requests of customers for catering service, Mike and John launched ACE Catering and Events in March of 2016. Now, their brand of “fresh & quality first” delicacies are free to hit the road and go wherever they’re desired. With the reputation of their exceptional food preceding them, ACE Catering and Events has hit the ground running and serves the area’s need for
corporate and social events as well as weddings and rehearsals.

ACE Catering and Events highlights the quality ingredients but emphasizes flexibility and willingness to customize menus to meet its customers’ individual tastes and needs – gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian
or any dietary restrictions.

Whether it’s Barrett’s Grill, Glyndon Grill, or Ace Catering and Events, count on John Barrett & Mike Sipes to prepare exceptional food with service and execution to match.
