Ogden’s General Store was built in 1890 on Parker’s Creek Road in Port Republic on what used to be the main drag
in Calvert County. It served the community as general store for nearly 80 years then had many incarnations – post office,
antique shop, thrift store, rooming house. Eventually it fell into disrepair.
Nearly a year ago, interior designer Barby Harms bought the old store with a vision to create a unique shopping experience
and the Mermaid’s Cottage was born. She carries sea inspired and salvage items, re-imagined furniture and interesting objects
crafted from weathered barn board and driftwood. The shop has proved to be popular and draws a crowd the second weekend
of every month.
Guest vendors and a catering truck set up on Saturday afternoons.
